TheOsceola – FSU softball defeats Syracuse, takes first ACC series

The Florida State softball team took its first ACC series, taking an early lead and a 5–1 victory over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.

The Seminoles (23–6, 2–0) have now won 25 consecutive games at the Orange and have not lost an ACC opening series since 2007.

Allison Royalty (6-0) pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk. He had three strikeouts.

Makena Reed wrapped up the game by pitching three shutout innings. Reed did not allow a hit, recorded one strikeout, and got his second save while hitting a batter.

Jahni Kerr took a two-run single in the first innings. Kelly Mudge had an RBI groundout in the second inning. Michaela Edenfield had an RBI groundout in the fifth inning, and Bethany Keane was tackled on an RBI double later in the inning.

Kerr went 2 for 3 and raised his batting average to .354.

Devin Flaherty went 2 for 2 with one run scored, raising his batting average to .294.

Syracuse fell to 7–13, 0–5.

FSU will host Syracuse on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the series finale on the ACC Network.
