Dust Woman and Piano Man with a capacity crowd of 70,000 cheering on.

But it was Nicks’ tribute to two other much-loved rock icons that had the crowd in tears — and had Nicks’ name trending on Twitter.

Nicks played first, delivering a hit-packed set that included singles such as “Stand Back,” “Edge of Seventeen,” and “If Anyone Falls” as well as Fleetwood Mac classics such as “Dreams,” “Gypsy,” Rhiannon”. and “Sarah” and a cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.” Four songs into her set, the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee performed “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” bella donna single that she said the late Tom Petty “gifted” to her in 1981 — and Sophie’s audience absolutely went wild when Joel unexpectedly emerged from the stage wings during the second verse to play Petty. Later, during Joel’s main set, Nick returned the favor by guesting on his tune “And So It Goes”.

Nicks, who was a dear friend of Petty’s, also reprized his crowd-pleasing cover of Petty’s “Free Fallin” – which he had previously performed while on tour with Fleetwood Mac, when Mike Campbell, former guitarist of Petty’s band The Heartbreakers played in it. 2018 Mac lineup. “Free Fallin” was a powerful Friday moment, but it was Nicks’ rendition of Mack’s coming-of-age ballad “Landslide”—dedicated to her late friend and bandmate Christine McVie, while a slide of vintage Nicks/McVie photos The show was on. When “Landslide” ended, Nick bowed his head before his microphone stand, tears welling up in his eyes. “I have to imagine she’s still here. That’s all I can do,” she said, choked up, as her band members backed her up to take her final bow. Friday marked the first time Nicks performed a public concert since McVie’s death in November 2022.
