Emma Stone has risen from the dead.
Oscar-nominated actress deepens her partnership with filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos with “Poor Things” inspired by frankenstein A story of second chances. According to the official synopsis, “Poor Things” focuses on the incredible story and fictional development of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman betrothed to the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Brought back to life by Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s tutelage, Bella is eager to learn. Appetizing for the worldliness she lacks, Bella escapes with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a cunning and lustful lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across continents. Freed from the prejudices of her time, Bela becomes determined in her cause to stand up for equality and liberation.

Stone produces the film, which also stars Ramy Youssef and Jerrod Carmichael. “Poor Things” is written by “The Great” showrunner Tony McNamara, who also wrote Lanthimos’ last film “The Favourite”, which also starred Stone. McNamara also wrote “Cruella”, which starred Stone.
“Poor Things” is based on the novel by Scottish author Alasdair Gray about a woman who drowns herself to escape her abusive husband and is resurrected with the brain of her unborn child.
“Poor Things” actors Stone and Dafoe Confirmed Will also lead Lanthimos’ next feature “AND”. The mystery film also stars “The Favorite” actors Joe Alwyn, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley and Hong Chow. Lanthimos praised Defoe’s commitment for his “AND” and “Poor Things” roles, saying, “That’s what you want from actors, wanting to be a part of it in any way.”
