“True Detective” creator Nick Pizzolatto has signed on to write Marvel Studios’ “Blade” movie, reuniting with Mahershala Ali, who starred in the third season of his HBO crime series.
“Blade” boasts Oscar winner Ali as the title vampire slayer, with Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth among the star cast. The film is in pre-production, with Pizzolatto taking writing duties while working on a draft of the script by Emmy nominee Michael Starbury, which has been described as “darker than most MCU films”.

The “Blade” reboot was first announced at Comic-Con in 2019, when Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige surprised Hall H by announcing that Marvel Comics would be adapted into three films between 1998 and 1998 by Wesley Snipes. “Blade” is currently slated to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, as the final film in Phase Five of the MCU.

It’s notable that the news of Pizzolatto joining the Marvel film comes just days before his WGA contract expires on May 1, with the work possibly being closed.
