Lewis Hamilton announces shock split: ‘I’m a better person because of him’

Lewis Hamilton has announced that her time working with performance coach Angela Cullen is over.

The seven-time world champion has worked with physiotherapist Cullen alongside the New Zealander for the past seven years Mercedes The star’s side around the world as an integral part of his support team.

Cullen, 48, joined Hamilton’s team in 2016 and has worked with him during four of his seven world championships.

Yet doubts were raised on Friday morning when Hamilton did not turn up in the paddock Saudi Arab with Cullen, before the 38-year-old himself confirmed the news on Instagram.

In an emotional post, she said: “For the last seven years Angela Cullen has been with me, inspiring me to be the best version of myself. I am a stronger athlete and a better person because of him.

“So today I hope you will join me in wishing her the best as she takes the next step in fulfilling her dreams. Thanks for everything Ang, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.

Cullen played international hockey for New Zealand between the ages of 15 and 21 before pursuing a degree in health science and physiotherapy from Auckland University of Technology.

Prior to working for the New Zealand Academy of Sport, he worked as a senior physiotherapist at the English Institute of Sport in London, working with British Olympic sprinters.

Cullen himself posted a heartwarming slideshow of photos on his social media, accompanied by a caption: “Exactly 7 years ago on this day I stood in the F1 paddock at the Australian GP for the first time. Today I want to share that So excited to be off on my next adventure.

“I am so grateful and blessed for this incredible journey in F1 and I know my story will continue. Thank you to the MB team who have been my family for the last 7 years.

“And Lewis Hamilton you goat!! It’s been such an honor and a pleasure to be standing next to you. I’m so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. Thank you for supporting me, believing in me, and for all of us.” Thank you for showing the limitless potential within.

“I’m so excited for you to see the next chapter. There’s nothing you can’t do. Don’t stop believing. Life’s journey is one big wave. Ride it. Think big. Like dreams come true. Forever By Your side. Yet we rise.”

It’s unclear at this point what Cullen’s next role will be, while Hamilton will need to focus again without his long-term confidante. Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this weekend.
