Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman Respond To Conor McGregor Calling For UFC Welterweight Title Shot

This week, the Irish superstar and former featherweight and lightweight UFC champion revealed that he would like to fight for the UFC title in the third division at 170 pounds. speaking with Ariel HelwaniMcGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) said he believes he has the potential to emerge victorious in his return against Michael Chandler later this year.

He also said that he may appear on Saturday UFC 286 Main event in London – a welterweight championship fight between Leon Edwards And kamru usman,

“Yeah, I want this, I want that,” McGregor said. “I can be there for the card, we have it going on at the Black Forge in London so I had to be there so after that Gunny (Gunnar Nelson) is also on the card so it will be good to see him stay. Definitely that welterweight. It would be nice to see the title.”

Both Edwards (20-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) and Usman (20-2 MMA, 15-1 UFC) were asked at Thursday’s UFC 286 press conference about their feelings toward McGregor’s comments. Neither of them objected to the idea when they emerged victorious on Saturday night.

“As king, I welcome all challengers,” Edwards said. “Whoever comes can get it.

“… him and whatever comes next. Now my focus is on Kamru Usman. I believe he is the toughest challenger in the division right now and I am focused on him. Whoever comes next, that’s it, you know?

Meanwhile, Usman, who is attempting to reclaim his status as champion, kept his response brief:

“I’ve always said I welcome it, so if it happens, it happens.”
