Take a desperate, explosive team in the Florida Panthers and pit them against a Montreal Canadiens team with nothing to lose, and strange things can happen. With 10 combined goals between the Panthers (seven) and the Canadiens (three), the two teams took part in an entirely offensive run on Thursday for the first time.

The Panthers set a new franchise record for goals in a single span on Thursday with seven of those shots, breaking the previous mark of six against the Bruins in 2000.
By doing that early damage in only 13:18 of game time, only one team in NHL history reached seven goals faster than Florida. Amazingly enough, it was the 1951 Canadiens, who scored seven goals in a blazing pace of 11 minutes and 12 seconds.
Through the NHL, the seven combined goals scored within the first 10 minutes of a game produced the most six-game ties in league history.
The Canadiens also set a franchise record with those seven goals in the same span.
watching first period aloneThe only other games in NHL history to match this start were the Sabers–Canadiens in 1982 and the Flames–Canucks in 1987. This game definitely has a 1980s feel to it.
Only four Panthers skaters failed to register a point in Thursday’s first period scoring spree: Anthony DuClair, Anton Lundell, Mark Staal and Brandon Montour. Sam Montembault suffered a short start for Montreal (three goals allowed, three saves), but Jake Allen could only do so much, giving up four additional goals in the first period.
At one point, Florida netminder Sergei Bobrovsky had allowed three goals on just three shots. Complete devastation.
