Browns acquired quarterback Deshaun Watson signed up around this time last year and was given a contract that they restructured before the start of the new league year.
According to multiple reports, the Browns have converted Watson’s $46 million base salary into a signing bonus. The move creates approximately $36 million in cap space for the team.
As noted on PFT last month, Brown was able convert that Without any conversation with Watson. Any move to add non-validating years to the end of the contract could only be with Watson’s agreement to stretch the expiring limit over more years. The amount of cap space received indicates that he added one such year to the deal.
Brown has now gone under the cap ahead of the start of the league year on Wednesday.
