bill hader is opening up about a frustrating experience that kept her from signing BB-8 merchandise.
Barry The star was credited as a voice consultant for the adorable droid BB-8 alongside fellow comedian ben schwartz in 2015 Star Wars: The Force AwakensAnd his connection to the little man means he still asks people to sign his star wars gear.
“I don’t sign them,” Hader confirmed on a recent episode of Josh Horowitz happy sad confused podcast. “I don’t like autograph people. I won’t sign things.”
In fact, he can pinpoint the exact moment that he became disenchanted with the grounds of signing over merchandise that could potentially end up on eBay.
“You know what it was? I used to sign stuff, and then one time I saw someone and they had their kid over for me to sign the BB-8 thing and it was three in the morning,” Haider said. “I was leaving from inside to outside premiere and then we went to the after party and it was so late and this guy held my baby up all night. (He) was like, ‘Get over there so he’ll sign it so I can sell it online.'”
“I was like, ‘That’s f—ed up,'” she continued. “So now, I’m just kind of blanket, like, I’m not signing any of this.”

In general, Hader said that he doesn’t entirely feel like he can even take credit for BB-8’s success as a character.
“It’s very cute jj abrams put my name on it, but I came in and did the voice material for it which didn’t work,” he explained. “Then, he brought me in afterwards and said, ‘Hey, do you want to do this.’ It was like a… talk box and then I did that. And the reason I don’t come back is because anybody can do that. It’s like a machine that you can operate.”
Hader continued, “I did some voice stuff that just didn’t work out, so … I’m not really sure what Ben[Schwartz]did, but I just know that was my experience doing it. “
