Andrew Lloyd Webber announced that the famous composer will not appear for Broadway due to his son’s illness ,bad cinderellaopening night on Thursday.
Weber released a statement Sunday, explaining that his son is “gravely ill” with cancer, and that the musical theater veteran will be taking time off to be with his son and family.
Weber said, “I am very sorry to say that my eldest son, Nick, is seriously ill.” “As my friends and family know, he has been battling gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now in hospital.”

Weber continued, “That’s why I wasn’t able to attend the recent previews of ‘Bad Cinderella’ and as things are, I won’t be able to cheer on its amazing cast, crew and orchestra at its opening night this Thursday. We all pray.” Praying that Nick will turn around. He is fighting bravely with his irreverent humor, but for now my place is with him and his family.
In addition to the musical “Bad Cinderella”, Weber is also working on the anthem for the coronation of King Charles III.
Weber was also set to attend the press event for “Bad Cinderella” on Wednesday, which is also her 75th birthday, in New York City. Thursday is the musical’s opening night at the Imperial Theatre.

He is best known for the music and libretto of the longest-running Broadway production of all time, “The Phantom of the Opera”. Weber’s other famous shows include “Cats,” “Evita,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
The musician is an EGOT winner as he has won a Primetime Emmy Award, three Grammy Awards, an Oscar, and six Tony Awards.
